![]() ![]() Then there’s the Lincoln County Process that all TN whiskey goes through. This higher quotient of corn adds another layer of fruitiness and sweetness to TN whiskey. Bourbon, generally, has a corn content closer to 72 or 74 percent. Tennessee whiskey often has a higher corn content - Jack’s mash bill is 80 percent corn, 12 percent malted barley, and eight percent rye. Worth noting: I’m not judging these Tennessee whiskeys against Kentucky bourbons (though all Tennessee whiskey is a type of bourbon). This is all about which bottle of Jack Daniel’s I think is actually worth trying, drinking, and mixing with. Price and availability in your region are not a factor here. I’m going into my tasting notes and ranking them according to which ones taste the best. That means that this ranking is very simple. I really want to look past the hype and see what’s in these bottles. That’s why I’m ranking every bottle in the current Jack rotation. The Single Barrel Select won’t blow your socks off, but for someone who’s not used to a higher proof but wants something interesting and a step above the classic Jack Daniel’s, this is a nice pickup for a very reasonable price. The same bottle has been used now for their special Heritage releases, the 2020 Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye, and other special releases in the past few years. ![]() There’s no denying that this bottle is a beautiful design, a decanter-style squat bottle that would fit well on any shelf. The biggest thing the Single Barrel Select has going for it is the packaging. As a single-barrel whiskey, the idea is always to have the barrels be within a certain range of flavors - identifiable as a Jack Daniel’s product, but with enough difference to explore where the flavors could go. They take single barrels and bring them down to 94 proof. Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select is a newer product line from the venerable Brown-Forman. ![]()
